Enigma regularly play for wedding ceremonies, civil partnerships, blessings, drinks receptions and wedding breakfasts. For more intimate settings, we can offer a string trio (consisting of 2 violins and a cello), which might be more suitable when space or budget is limited.

​

Our flexible booking terms ensure that your musical requirements can be accommodated, covering any, or all parts of your big day. Bookings start from one hour up to five hours. The choice is yours, but the descriptions below give an idea of how the day could be planned.

 

 

Ceremonies

​

Enigma String Quartet is the ideal musical choice for a wedding ceremony of any type, civil or religious, as we are versatile enough to play almost any piece of music in a variety of situations. We liaise closely with our clients to ensure that their perfect music is chosen.

​

We usually begin to play before the ceremony is due to commence as the guests are seated, 15 minutes before a civil ceremony or 30 minutes before a church service. It is then customary for us to perform for the entrance of the bridal party. The length of the aisle can vary immensely from venue to venue but don’t worry, over the years we have developed our expertise to tailor the preferred piece of music to the appropriate duration to create your perfect entrance.

The choice of music is all yours (see our extensive repertoire) but if you need inspiration here are some of the most requested pieces for entrance music:

We would then typically play two or three pieces for the entertainment of guests whilst the signing of the register takes place (and a few photos no doubt), a good opportunity to have a piece of music played that means something personal to you.

After which we would be ready to play for the recession of the bridal party, it’s nice to have something upbeat and celebratory played at this point. For example:

NB music of a religious connotation is not usually permitted at civil ceremonies, although it is always worth checking with your registrar.

Drinks Reception / Photographs

 

Following the wedding ceremony we will relocate to where the drinks reception is to be held and, if all in the same venue, this should not take long. If however this involves a change of venue we will endeavour to arrive ahead of your guests to provide the perfect welcome.

 

We will play a selection from our repertoire including any special requests, please click here for a typical playlist. Drinks receptions usually last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

 

 

Wedding Breakfasts

 

We are the perfect accompaniment for a wedding breakfast, not too intrusive and ideal for creating a relaxing atmosphere. However, it is always worth checking with your venue to make sure that there will be enough space for us in the room. We need 2m squared and it is more comfortable for everyone if there is a few feet between us and the nearest table.

 

It is also important to let us know if you are planning to have speeches before or after the meal, we can then plan accordingly. We would usually finish playing around the time that coffee is brought to the tables. Wedding breakfasts usually last approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.
